The Nigerian Government says by 2021, it will not engage people as teachers if they do not meet a particular threshold as only graduates with First Class and Second Class Upper Division will be considered for employment.
Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Education, Sonny Echono, said this in Abuja during the monitoring of ongoing teachers’ professional examinations by the Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria.
The Permanent Secretary hinted that teachers without requisite qualifications, competencies and practising license are presently being migrated out of the Nigerian Teaching Service.
Echono who disclosed that the Federal Government is more interested in learning outcome also revealed that a National Implementation Committee on Teachers Revitalisation and Resuscitation Plan will be inaugurated before the end of November 2020.
