Nigeria’s Interior Minister, Rauf Aregbesola says all correctional centres in the country will be rehabilitated as part of government’s deliberate efforts at decongesting facilities with inmates nationwide.
The Minister was speaking while inspecting the new 3000-capacity facility at Janguza in Kano State, North-West Nigeria.
Aregbesola described the 3000-capacity custodian facility that is almost completed and ready for use the facility as a model in Africa. A similar centre is being established in each of the other 5 geo-political zones.

Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Prison Service, Jafar Ahmad said the new correctional centre in Kano will be commissioned this year by President Muhammadu Buhari.
Inmates at the Kano Correctional Centre will be moved to the new facility when it becomes operational.
