Governor Douye Diri of Bayelsa State says he is confident of the ability of the newly elected state assembly members under the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, performing their duties credibly.
Governor Diri spoke when he officially received the new legislators alongside the leadership of the house in Government House, Yenagoa.
The Governor however, regretted that out of the twenty-four seats, only two women were elected from the PDP into the 6th assembly, as he hopes for a better deal for the women in the next election in 2027.
He also emphasized the need for the executive and legislative arms of government to continue to work in harmony for the development of the state, saying it was a wrong notion that both arms were supposed to be in constant disagreement.

Speaker of the house Abraham Ingobere remarked that beyond supporting the programs and policies of the current Administration, the members-elect were prepared to also work for the re-election of Governor Diri to enable him to continue his good works in the state.
Out of the twenty-four constituencies, the PDP won 17 seats, the All Progressives Congress, APC 4, and All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA 2, while the Ogbia constituency-2 election was still pending as a result of the destruction of electoral materials by political thugs on Election day.
