Edo State governor, Godwin Obaseki, has said his administration will continue to place a premium on the enhancement of the judiciary in the state because of its critical role in upholding democracy.
The governor made this known at the formal opening of the 2020/21 legal year which held at the state high court in Benin city.
The formal opening of the 2020/21 legal year of the state judiciary was an occasion for stocktaking and to appreciate the efforts of all players in the judicial system.
The event was also aimed at setting new goals for judicial officials in the state.
Speaking, chief judge of the state, honourable Justice Esther Edigin, said her goal is to enhance productivity, and make the judicial service delivery accessible, affordable, cost effective, transparent and accountable.

She appealed to governor Godwin Obaseki to promptly attend to the payment of outstanding salaries to judicial workers.
Obaseki said the importance of the third arm of government cannot be overemphasized even as he assured that his administration will continue to put high value on the judiciary.
He added that the state government will continue to promote the rule of law at all times.
