The Cross River State Government has announced the suspension of the Local Government Pensions Board in the State with immediate effect.
The reason for the suspension is however not contained in the statement issued by the Commissioner for Local Government Affairs, Stella Odey.
Sources close to the Ministry however say the suspension may not be unconnected with the petition written by organized labour over the administration of pensions at the local government level with allegations of fraud.
In the short but terse statement announcing the suspension of the Board, all its activities have been suspended with immediate effect until further notice.
The Commissioner also directed the Auditor-General and Permanent Secretary of the Local Government Service Commission to meet with her in the office this Tuesday for further discussion on the issue.
Odey said the action was in the best interest of the State and pensioners as pension administration under Governor Ayade will improve welfare of pensioners in the State and not the other way round.
