The Governor of Edo State, Godwin Obaseki, has apologised to the Oba of Lagos, His Royal Majesty Rilwan Akiolu, over the incident that occurred when the royal father attended the first convocation ceremony of the Edo University, Iyamho in Etsako West Local Government Area of the state in November 2019.
The Governor tendered the unreserved apology when he paid a visit on the Oba in his palace.

Governor Obaseki, who described the incident as regrettable, also told the Oba that he was honouring an invitation from Edo State indigenes in Lagos State for a town hall meeting in Oregon, Ikeja.
The Lagos monarch in his address, called for calm in the political affairs of Edo State. He said the progress of the state is paramount and as such peace is needed to promote development.
The Oba Akiolu cautioned against violent tendencies and noted that no matter the grievances, the fight should not be allowed to linger.
It would be recalled that the convoy of the Governor and the Oba of Lagos was attacked by some political thugs in the hometown of the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Adams Oshiomhole, who is the immediate past governor of the state.
