Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, on Monday, met with the leaders of the various ethnic groups residing in the state and called on everyone to live in peace and harmony with each other.
Governor Nyesom Wike’s, meeting with the representatives of all the ethnic groups under the umbrella of non-indigenes residing in Rivers State, was to ensure that the atmosphere of peaceful coexistence prevails in the state.
The last two weeks have seen an outbreak of violence perpetrated by members of The Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB in some parts of the state.
The violence which resulted in the destruction of property and loss of lives including policemen and soldiers, almost snowballed into an ethic crisis.
Wike also made it clear that he has never had anything against the Igbos from whom he has enjoyed wide support, except for a few bad elements.

While pointing out that his administration has nothing against any ethnic group, the governor wants them to unite, resist and flush out trouble makers bent on causing disaffection among the groups in the state.
He also warned the various ethnic groups, particularly the Hausa/Fulani and the Igbos, not to fall prey to the selfish schemes of politicians, already nursing ambition for 2023.
While calling on the residents of the state to be peaceful and law abiding, the Rivers State governor says the State Security Council will meet to review the situation in Oyigbo Local Government Area, where a 24-hour curfew has been imposed following the violent activities of IPOB.
