Enugu State Police Command has confirmed the killing of a former Commissioner in the State who had also served as the Chairman of Oji River Council Area, Gabriel Onuzulike.
Also killed in the violent attack is Gabriel’s brother, Elvis Onuzulike. The attack happened at about 6 pm on Friday while the victims were returning from a burial event in Eke Egbo, Achi in Oji River Local Government Area.

Two of the suspected gunmen were gunned down by security operatives who responded to a distress call. The Enugu Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Daniel Ndukwe in a statement made available to AIT said early investigation has commenced to arrest the remaining hoodlums, many of whom are believed to have escaped into a nearby forest with severe degrees of gunshot injuries as a result of shootout with a joint Police – Army team who intercepted the fleeing gang at neighbouring Inyi community.
The Police statement listed items recovered from the assassins to include AK 47 rifle, with two magazines loaded with ammunition while a Toyota land cruiser Jeep belonging to the deceased, a Toyota Camry car the hoodlums attempted to snatch from another victim and a RAV4 Jeep that was used for the operations, were also recovered.
