Two Unions at the Cross River State College of Health Technology, Calabar, on Monday, paralysed academic activities in the institution with their warning strike over the suspension of the Consolidated Polytechnic and Colleges of Education Academic Salary Structure, by the state government.
The Institution’s Chairmen of the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnic (ASUP), Comrade Bright Ewona and that of the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Polytechnics (SSANIP) Effiong Archibong, said that the warning Strike will lead to a full-scale industrial action if the government fails to address their issues within one week.
The Unions said that all avenues, including the expiration of the 14 days ultimatum, have been exhausted before the commencement of the warning strike.
On his part, the Chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, Comrade Ben Ukpebi, said that the two unions, followed the Labour law, before proceeding on the strike and called on the state government to see to their demands.

The striking Unions said that the suspension of the salary structure, has caused hardship to both workers and their families, for more than one year.
