The deal was made possible because,Koeman has a clause in his current contract with the Dutch Football Association, KNVB ,which allows him to honour an offer from Barcelona.

The former Barcelona legend’s departure is a major blow to the Dutch Football Federation who seek a return to the euro’s and world cup having missed out in the last two editions of both competitions.
