Nigeria’s House of Representatives has passed “The Bill for an Act to provide for the Regulation and Conduct of the Practice of Broadcasting Profession in Nigeria; and Related Matters (HB 1150).

It is expected that the Bill will now be forwarded to Senate for concurrence. In a statement signed by Executive Secretary of the Broadcasting Organisations of Nigeria, BON, Dr. Yemisi Bamgbose, the clause by clause considerations of the Bill sponsored by Olaifa Jimoh Aremu representing Egbado North-Imeko-Afon Fedreral Constituency of Ogun State was considered at the plenary of Tuesday, December 20, 2022 without any objection from any of the lawmakers.
Bamgbose further noted that the Bill was subsequently slated and passed at the plenary presided over by the House Speaker, Femi Gbajabiamila on Wednesday, December 21, 2022. The House Committee on Information, National Orientation, Ethics and Values led by Segun Odebunmi had earlier conducted a public hearing on the Bill in July this year.
