President Muhammadu Buhari says he is proud to hand over to President-elect Bola Tinubu as his *successor”.

The President said this on Thursday in Abuja in his address, shortly after he conferred the National Honours of the Grand Commander of the Federal Republic, GCFR and the Grand Commander of the Order of the Niger, GCON on the President-elect and the Vice President-elect.

He described the ceremony as a significant milestone in the democratic journey of the country.

He congratulated the President-elect on what he described as, a well-deserved victory, during the 2023 election.

He says he does not doubt that Nigeria will continue to thrive under the leadership of the President-elect.

He says his victory at the polls was a testimony, that he was the most popular candidate among the candidates that contested the election.

President Buhari says he does not doubt the capacity of the Vice-president-elect, considering his strides in governance.

He urged them not to forget the enormous responsibility that comes with the office, urging them to give their best in tackling the challenges of the country.

The Nigerian leader says the President-elect’s track in Lagos speaks volumes.

He says his government has tackled headlong, since inception, the issues of insecurity and other challenges.

The President noted that his administration has tackled the issue of corruption as well, headlong.

The President also gave a scorecard of what his administration has done, in terms of the development of infrastructure in the country.

He disclosed that the link between infrastructure and economic transformation is undeniable.

He says considering the experience of his government in 2015, he signed Executive Order 14, to ensure a smooth transition process.

He encouraged the President-elect to upgrade his administration’s legacy, as contained in the handover documents.
