An FCT High Court has sentenced Maryam Sanda accused of murdering her husband, Bilyaminu Haliru Bello, to death by hanging.
Justice Yusuf Halilu convicted her as charged by the police for murdering her husband in the night of November 18, 2017, in their home at Wuse II in Abuja, the nation’s capital.

Justice Halilu held that Sanda failed to explain the death of her husband as the “doctrine of last seen” caught up with her being the last person seen with the deceased. The court therefore concluded that she was unable to prove her innocence.
The court also ordered her to be remanded in Suleja Correctional Centre pending when her right for appeal will be exhausted.
Immedeately after the court pronouncement, the courtroom was filled with emotions. This coupled with the rowdiness forced the judge to go on a short recess before returning to sentence the convict.
