Kano Emirate Council will now have five kingmakers as against the previous four, if the new emirate amendment bill is passed.
The bill has passed its second reading at the Kano State House of Assembly on Monday.
Fundamental changes contained in the bill are, non-rotational, Permanent Chairmanship of the Council of Chiefs, to be headed by the Emir of Kano.

In the event of the death of an emir a maximum of 3 days is required to appoint a new one.
The House will complete its legislative processes of the bill at the next sitting.
In another development, the recently elected Chairman of the Nigerian Bar Association, NBA, Kano State branch, Aminu Gadanya, has also paid a solidarity visit to the Assembly.
He expressed support for the autonomy of the judicial arm of government.
