Katsina Insecurity: 41 die, 2 injured as terrorists, groups clash

Police in Katsina has confirmed that forty-one persons have been killed when terrorists and the outlawed groups known as ‘Yansakai’ operating in the forest area of Bakori Local Government Area clashed.

The spokesman of the police Superintendent Gambo Isah who confirmed the development in a statement said, the incident occurred Wednesday night, January 1, at about 11 pm.

According to him, the terrorists in their numbers armed with AK 47 and shooting sporadically, attacked a victim simply identified as Muntari, at Unguwar Audu, located in the Kandarawa Ward of Bakori Local Government Area, and rustled his 50 cows.

Isah added that subsequently on Thursday, January 2, at about 10 am, the Yansakai outlawed group, from eleven villages from Bakori Local Government Area, regrouped and went after the terrorists, to recover the rustled domestic animals.

He said, they traced the footpath of the hoodlums to a location at Yargoje forest and unfortunately, the terrorists planned and launched a coordinated ambush on the group.

The police image maker further added that the terrorists shot and killed forty-one Yansakai members, and wounded 2 of them.

Isah said, the Area Commander, Malumfashi, led a team of Policemen to the scene and recovered the corpses and the injured at Kankara General Hospital, as joint security operations were ongoing, to bring the perpetrators to book.
