The Kwara State Command of the Nigeria Police Force has inaugurated the state’s Community Policing Advisory Committee.
The initiative is part of the Inspector General of Police’s strategies to involve the citizenry in crime prevention and management.
The committee is to be co-chaired by the state Commissioner of Police and the Chairman of the state Traditional Rulers Council.
Representatives from other security agencies, the Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, the Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs and representatives from the three senatorial districts of the state are members.
The Kwara State Commissioner of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, and the Assistant Inspector General in charge of Zone 8 under which the Kwara State Command falls, Yunana Babas, was also at the event.
The Kwara Police Commissioner stressed that being closer to the grassroots, the appointed committee members are expected to drive community policing and help in maintaining peace, law and order in their various domains.

A State Community Policing Committee with an expanded membership across the labour unions, Civil Society Organizations and people living with disabilities were also inaugurated.
