Former Vice President of the Nigeria Labour Congress Issa Aremu has called on the federal government to set aside special fund that will enable private schools in Nigeria to retool and prepare for digital learning.
Issa Aremu who made the call in Kaduna on the occasion of the 2020 Nelson Mandela day celebration says, at a time when schools remain closed due to the rise in the figure of confirmed cases of COVID 19, the knowledge gap between children of the elites and the poor will widen if public schools do not embrace e-learning.
Aremu says since the upsurge of COVID 19 is threatening the final examination of SS3 students, there is a need for the Nigerian government to engage WAEC to also alter its calendar for Nigerian students preparing for the examination.
The Labour leader who also called on African leaders to emulate the core values of late Nelson Mandela also advised the government to do what is necessary by making available water, hand sanitizer as well as face masks in both the public and private schools.
