A magistrate court sitting in Kano has ordered the managing director of Kano road traffic agency KAROTA, Baffa Dan Agundi, to appear in person before the court in the next adjourned date or face arrest.
This follows the refusal of the agency’s MD to honour an earlier invitation of the court to answer questions regarding the issuance of electronic trackers and stickers to commercial tricycle riders in the state.
Presiding magistrate, Muhammad Jibrin, averred that it is ridiculous for the defendant not to appear in court as the case cannot be tried in absentia.
He therefore ordered the defendant,Baffa Dan Agundi to appear in court or face arrest.

Counsel to the complainant, Abba Hikima accused the MD of KAROTA of issuing fake electronic trackers to commercial tricycle owners, which amounts to an abuse of office and trust.
Counsel to the defendant, Muntawalkil Ishaq, and legal adviser to KAROTA, Muhammad Waziri, said their clients failed to appear in court because the process used in initiating the proceeding is defective, stressing that they even filed an objection which was turned down.
Magistrate Muhammad Jibrin adjourned the case to 19th October 2020 for continuation of hearing.
