In the bid to curb maritime smuggling, the Nigerian Navy on Friday, impounded 692 bags of foreign rice and 181 drums of petrol along Tomshot Island in Calabar, Cross River State.
Speaking with reporters during the hand-over of the suspects and confiscated items to the Operation Swift Response team leader, the Commander of the Nigerian Navy Ship Victory, Rear Admiral Vincent Okeke, said his Command will continue to make the water corridors uncomfortable for smugglers and other criminal elements.
Okeke said that the goods valued at over N75 million were confiscated with four wooden boats and five suspects.

On his part, the team leader of the Joint Task Force, Aliu Madaki, while recieving the smuggled items and the suspects, promised to carry out a thorough investigation after which the full law will be administered on them.
The foreign parboiled rice were loaded from Wovia in Cameroon to Oron in Akwa Ibom while the petrol was smuggled to Cameroon before the Navy Patrol Intercepted them.
