Nigeria now has 29 Molecular laboratories with the capacity to test for Covid-19 infections including the new Reference Molecular Laboratory in Bauchi State. The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control, NCDC announced this on its Twitter handle.
The Centre had last week announced the activation of 2 laboratories in Ogun and Katsina States. They are the private sector driven Afriglobal Medicare Laboratory in Ogun State and the Sahel Centre for Molecular Diagnostics and Research in Katsina State.
Currently, there are 19 states in Nigeria including the Federal Capital Territory that have Molecular laboratories with the capacity to test for Covid-19 disease. Work is reportedly in progress in Kwara and Gombe States to activate new testing facilities. There are however 17 states without a Molecular testing laboratory in the country.
