More than one hundred rape cases have been officially reported to the Niger State Committee on Gender-Based Violence this year.
The reported cases according to the Wife of Niger State Governor, Aminah Bello, is an indication that the people are becoming more aware of the importance of speaking out.

The Wife of the Governor, Aminah Bello who is the Committee Chairman on Gender-Based Violence in the state told stakeholders at an interactive session, that holding the interactive session in the eight emirates of Niger State is aimed at ensuring that information gets to the people at the grassroots in their language.
A legal practitioner with the Niger State Ministry Of Justice, Mairo Mann, called on parents to create time to monitor the activities of their children.
The Committee on Gender-Based Violence said it is committed to working closely with religious leaders, traditional rulers and civil society, and non-government organizations, in their quest to reduce the menace of gender-based violence in the state.
