Some Nigerians have blamed the country’s poor development to the failure of successive administrations to implement people-oriented policies, They say the failure has seriously hampered what would have been, sixty years of economic progress.
Nigeria’s sixty years of independence from British colonial rule has also been described by many as a disappointing experience.
This is hinged on poor economic indicators such as high rate of unemployment, high number of children out of school, insecurity, and infrastructure deficit, For Nigeria’s oils bearing communities, the issue of neglect and environmental pollution is still prevalent.

These problems have been further compounded by the COVID-19 pandemic which has exposed the years of negligence of the public health sector by government at various levels.
These put forth the question whether Nigeria as a country is receding to a possible state of economic shutdown.
