The Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, in Taraba State has suspended the indefinite strike over 30, 000 Naira minimum wage, few hours after it began.

The industrial action was suspended after the Taraba State government approved the implementation of the 30,000 Naira minimum for grade level 01 to 06 civil servants in the state.

The approval is the result of a meeting between the Public Service Negotiating Council of the NLC and the Trade Union Congress, TUC, with state government representatives.

A Memorandum of Understanding, MoU, by the Public Service Negotiating Council released by the office of the Head of Service, Suzy Nathan, said the minimum wage implementation will take effect from January 2020, and payment should not be later than January 2021.

Other agreements reached are the review of pensions paid to reflect the new minimum wage and the provision of support by Labour to the government in blocking salary leakages in the state civil service.

The MoU was signed by the Taraba State Head of Service, Suzy Nathan, and William Kwanchi, the Chairman Joint Public Service Negotiating Council, on behalf of Labour.
