The central mosque in the ancient city of Kano was Friday deserted as the 7-day total Coronavirus lockdown order took effect in the state to check the spread of Coronavirus.
This is the first time the mosque will be empty and not observing the Friday congregational prayers since it was rebuilt in the 1930s by late Emir Abdullahi Bayero.
Even when Boko Haram attacked the mosque in 2014 on a Friday to force a stampede, worshippers trooped out enmasse the following Friday to observe the congregational prayer.
