President of the Nigeria Union of Journalist (NUJ) Chris Isibuzor, has called on Journalists to rise and Challenge the “Hate Speech Bill” just passed for second reading by the National Assembly.
He threw the challenge during an extra ordinary Congress meeting held in Jos, the Plateau state capital at the councils secretariat of the NUJ.
According to the NUJ president, the Bill is not only anti-journalist, anti-people, draconian and indirect way to muzzle, cow and pocket journalists by the government, it is also a deliberate move to deprive the society of access to free information.
Isibuzor who also spoke about the implications of the Bill which has already passed second reading at the National Assembly berated the initiator who he said it would have be more profitable and rewarding if he had channeled his smart brain to issues which would be beneficial to all the people of Nigeria.
The NUJ president who also described the proposed bill before the National Assembly as an overzealous one and called on all well meaning Nigerians to resist the bill before it is too late.
