The Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Tanko Mohammed, has said that the Supreme Court is choked with so many cases as the number of Judges has reduced drastically to 13.
Justice Tanko mentioned this at the valedictory session in honour of Justice Amiru Sanusi, following the ever increasing number of appeals that flood the court daily.
The Supreme Court started its week with a valedictory session in honour of one of its own, Justice Amiru Sanusi, who attained the compulsory retirement age of 70.
The Chief Justice of Nigeria, with pains in his eyes, lamented the vacuum the exit of Justice Sanusi would create for the bench.
The Nigerian Bar Association, NBC, on its part, urged President Muhammadu Buhari to consider the recommendations of the National Judicial Commission, NJC.

The Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, who was represented by the Solicitor-General of the Federation and Permanent Secretary, Dayo Apata, and other key players in the judiciary, also eulogized Justice Sanusi.
Justice Sanusi, who was born on February 2, 1950, was called to the Nigerian Bar in 1978, and started his judicial career as a Magistrate Grade II in 1979. He became the first Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice in Katsina State in 1990.
Justice Sanusi’s hard work yielded his elevation up to the Supreme Court on April 27, 2015.
