The People’s Democratic Party, PDP, Governorship primary has commenced with three aspirants collapsing their structures and stepping down for the incumbent Governor of the State, Godwin Obaseki, who is running for his second term in office on the platform of the PDP after his disqualification from the All Progressives Congress, APC
The governorship primary took place at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin City and was chaired by the Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed.
Governor Bala Mohammed; Chairman, PDP Zonal Caretaker Committee, Dan Orbih and the State chairman, Anthony Aziegbemi expressed delight at the turn of events that has enabled the party take the centre stage in the state.

Three aspirants, Ken Imasuagbon, Omoregie Ogbeide-Ihama and Gideon Ikhine all stepped down for Governor Godwin Obaseki, making him the sole candidate of the party.
As at the time of filing this report, delegates had started voting.
