The Deputy Governor of Ondo State, Agboola Ajayi, is being said to have been held under house arrest’ at his official residence since Saturday night, purportedly on the orders of the state government.
Ajayi’s supporters raised the alarm after he was stopped by the Commissioner of Police, in the company of other security personnel, from moving his personal properties from his official residence.
The Deputy Governor is widely believed to be on the verge of defecting to the opposition Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, this week.
The state government has denied any claim that the Deputy Governor was held under house arrest.

A statement by Segun Ajiboye, the Chief Press Secretary to Governor Rotmi Akeredolu, commended security agents for the vigilance at ensuring that “government property were not carted away.”
The official position of the Ondo State Government is that the Deputy Governor was only prevented from removing the property at night.
