The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has assured that the fire that destroyed over 5100 card readers in Akure office on Thursday will not affect the conduct of the governorship election in October.
The Resident Electoral Commissioner, Rufus Akeju gave the assurance at a press conference in Abuja on Friday.
He said necessary arrangements have been made to replace the damaged card readers.
Akeju however faulted claims by the opposition parties that the fire incident was deliberate to rig the governorship election for the ruling party.
The PDP in the state had raised alarm over the fire incident.
