A lion, which escaped from its cage, has caused panic in the neighbourhood of the Kano zoological gardens.
Visitors are not allowed into the zoo as officials made frantic efforts to return the lion to its cage.
Sources at the zoo said the lion is trapped in the ostrich cage where it killed two ostriches and three goats.
The zoo, according to reports, lacks tranquillisers to weaken the lion before taking it back to its cage.
An eye witness, Abubakar Sadiq, told AIT that it was while workers were trying to return the lion to its cage after return from Nasarawa State for exhibition, that it escaped forcing everyone to climb trees for safety.
Armed Police men have been stationed outside the zoo while mobile Police patrol the area while officials await the arrival of tranquillisers from Abuja, according to zoo sources.
