The opposition Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has described the Sokoto Central Market fire incident as a national tragedy and concern for all.
In a statement, the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Kola Ologbondiyan said it’s a worrisome situation, given the strategic place the market occupies in the economy of the nation as a commercial hub for both national and international trade activities.

The PDP also grieved over other recent devastating fire inferno at the furniture market in Kugbo, Abuja, the Friday’s gas explosion in Agbor, Delta State and the gas explosion at Rumuodumanya, Obio Akpor Local Government Area of River State on Saturday as well as other avoidable tragedies that have befallen Nigeria and her citizens.
The opposition commiserated with the victims of the disasters and urged the Federal Government to join, not only in providing succour for the victims, but to also take steps to equip the disaster management agencies for improved emergency response as well as measures to forestall such disasters in the future.
It however commended the intervention of Governors elected on the platform of the PDP for taking immediate steps to mitigate the sufferings of the victims especially to the Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike for the gesture of sending financial relief for e victims of the Sokoto Central Market fire disaster as well as his quick intervention in the Rumuodumanya inferno.
Ologbondiyan stated that such actions reinforces the party’s commitment to the unity, stability and cohesiveness of the country.
