Former Speaker of the Plateau State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. George Daika has won the ticket of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, for the Plateau Southern Senatorial District by-election scheduled for October 31.
His emergence follows the successful conduct of the primaries held on Saturday, September 5, in Shendam Local Government Area of the state.
The much anticipated Primary election planned to kick off by 10am was held hostage by delegates due to the inability of the aspirants to conclude negotiations with the the delegates.
The election began about 4:30pm and ended midnight Saturday, while announcing the results, Chairman PDP Senatorial Primary Election Committee, Sen. Mao Ohabunwan declared Daika the winner and accordingly returned him elected, having scored the highest number of votes and fulfilled all the requirements of the law.
Daika, who polled 434 votes to beat three other candidates, assured of carrying everyone everyone along.

Daika, a former member of the House of representatives is to face the All Progresssives Congress (APC) candidate Prof. Nora Daduut during the by-election scheduled for October 31, to fill the vacant Senate seat as a result of the demise of late Senator Ignatius Longjan in February, 2020.
