Nine suspects have been arrested by the Niger State police command for various offences ranging from thuggery, attempted robbery, and possession of cannabis sativa, among others.
According to the police, the arrest is in continuation of their sting operations in Minna metropolis towards ensuring a peaceful Ember period, and most especially the forthcoming Christmas and New Year celebration.
Spokesman of the police, Superintendent Wasi’u Abiodun said on November 29 at about 1: pm, the Police operatives of Maitumbi Division led by the Divisional Police Officer with some vigilante members stormed some identified black spots/criminal hideouts behind Flamingo junction and Sabo-Angwan areas of Maitumbi.
During the operation, seven suspects were arrested, with three of them planning to launch an attack and rob unsuspecting members of the public.
Abiodun added that they were arrested with two sharp knives and three handsets while the four other suspects were arrested at Sabo-Angwan during an attempt to attack a victim within the area with dangerous weapons such as knives, cutlass, scissors, plier, axe, charms, and handsets.
The police also said two suspects, including a 27-year-old female, Baraka Suleiman were arrested by a combined team of police operatives and vigilante members when they raided a residential criminal hideout behind Mai-Angwan house at Dutsen-Kura Gwari.
They were arrested with about seventy wraps of suspected cannabis and some quantity of same in a polythene bag with a cash sum of one hundred and thirty-six thousand, three hundred naira as a proceed from the sale of cannabis.
During interrogation, they confessed to being members and customers of the cannabis within the same house but denied the owners of the exhibits, as others escaped from the scene.
