Gun runners supplying guns and ammunition to kidnappers for their operations in the north-western states of Zamfara and Katsina have been arrested by the police.
Force Public Relations Officer, Frank Mba who stated this in Abuja, the nation’s capital says one of the gun runners who specializes in stocking arms and ammunition under the seat of his motorcycle was arrested with 2 AK 47 and over 150 live ammunitions on his way to Niger State.
There were over 60 male suspects arrested including a 19-year old who is the leader of the gang that plotted the kidnap of a local government area chairman in Zamfara State.
Mba says the arrest of the suspects is one of the success stories of the Operation Puff Adder which was launched in 2019.
Items recovered from the suspects include 39 assault rifles, 459 live ammunition and 355 live cartridges.
