The Liberian President and former FIFA World Footballer of the Year, George Weah, has warned that many African clubs will collapse as a result of the impact of Covid-19.
He said the future of African sport was bleak and may not recover after the COVID-19 pandemic.
Weah told a special e-conference for Africa Sports Ventures Group that the bleak future was due to the loss of sponsorship, a sports lifeline, as companies reduced spending on clubs and leagues across Africa.
Calling for an urgent need to resuscitate football and other games; Weah said though health and economic recovery must take absolute priority, global fundings should also recognise the social importance of sports.
