Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike has called on public servants in the state to use the opportunity of the office given to them to work towards the development of the state and make life meaningful for the people.
Governor Wike who on Tuesday presided over the swearing of 17 new permanent secretaries into the state civil service says public office holders whether elected or appointed must at all times place the interest and development of the state and country over any other interest.
The swearing-in ceremony took place just 24 hours after the names of the appointees were announced
Governor Wike says he took measures in order to guard against unnecessary lobbying and to ensure that only the most qualified directors were elevated to the position of permanent secretary.

Among the newly sworn-in permanent secretaries is the president of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria, SWAN. Honour Sirawoo.
The governor wants them to see their appointment as an opportunity to help move Rivers State forward.
Governor Nyesom Wike was also quick to warn that he’ll not hesitate to send packing any of the new permanent secretaries found wanting.
The Rivers State Governor further directed the head of the civil service to assign the new permanent secretaries to their ministries and agencies so that they can commence work immediately.
