The ruling Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has made a clean sweep of last Saturday’s council elections, held across the 13 Local Government Areas of Ebonyi State.
The party also cleared all the 171 available councilorship positions at the poll, boycotted by the main opposition party in the state, the All Progressive Congress, APC.
Chairman of the Ebonyi State Independent Electoral Commission, EBSIEC, Jossy Eze, who announced the result in Abakaliki on Sunday, disclosed that twelve political parties including African Action Congress, AAC, All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, and the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, participated in the election.

The swearing in of the newly elected Council Chairmen, is to hold on Tuesday, September 1, 2020.
In a statement signed by the Commissioner for Information, Uchenna Orji, the State Governor Dave Umahi will perform the ceremony at the state Ecumenical centre, Abakaliki.
