The Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, says it will go ahead with the planned nationwide strike if the Federal Government refuses to heed to calls to reverse the hike in electricity tariff and fuel price.
The NLC President, Ayuba Waba, said the union will wait until 12 midnight to hear from the government otherwise embark on the scheduled strike on Monday.
Ayuba made this known on Sunday after a meeting with the Speaker of the House of Representatives.
The meeting is part of last-minute efforts by the Speaker, Femi Gbajabiamila, to halt a planned strike by the organised labour over the increase of fuel price and electricity tariff.
The Speaker appealed to Labour leaders to consider the consequences of the planned strike.
There are fears that the Speaker’s appeal may not yield the desired results as the union is insisting that the ultimatum by the organised Labour for a total strike still stands excepts the executive meets their demand.
While the Speaker is appealing that the union tarries a while, Waba who briefed journalists after a closed-door session on the court injunction, said the organised Labour is yet to be served.
