Students of the University of Calabar and other tertiary institutions in Cross River State, on Monday, took to the street; calling for an end to the prolonged strike by the Academic Staff Union of University (ASUU).
The students also called on President Muhammadu Buhari to as a matter of urgency fix the decay in the education sector or they will mobilise their colleagues nationwide to begin what they called “The Grand Protest” in Nigeria.
Speaking at the peaceful rally which started at the Botanical Garden and terminated at the Governor’s office in Calabar, the President of the Student Union Government, Unical Chapter, Ogbe James said they stay at home for over seven months is becoming unbearable.
The student leaders called on the Cross River Governor, Ben Ayade to deliver their message to the President, stressing that the industrial action was beginning to have a negative influence on them.
