AITNEWS- JOLLY NYAME

The Supreme Court has affirmed the 14 years prison sentence slammed on former Governor of Taraba state, Jolly Nyame in 2018 on charges of stealing and corruption.

Delivering judgement on the appeal filed by Nyame, the apex court held that the appeal lacked merit and that he must serve his term. It however upheld certain grounds of the appeal which requires a refund of monies belonging to the state which he stole.

The court therefore set aside the order of fine imposed by the trial judge.

Overall, Justice Amina Augie who read the lead judgement held that there was no basis to set aside the concurrent findings of the two lower courts which convicted the former governor on 27 out of 41 counts filed by the economic and financial crimes commission, EFCC

It noted that having so far served two years, Nyame will have to serve the remaining twelve years of the sentence
