Suspected Boko Haram insurgents are said to have launched attacks in not less than three communities in Hawul local government area of Borno state.
Some local sources said that the invaders arrived in dozens at about 5pm on Boxing Day, to launch the coordinated attacks on Tashan Alade, Shaffa and Khiributu villages.
Hundreds of the villagers are said to have fled their homes, as the attackers continued to shoot sporadically.
The fleeing villagers are said to be taking refugee in the nearby bushes.

According to a vigilante source, the attackers have razed down two EYN Churches in Tashan Alade.
Another source said that, the people are running and children are crying.
It could be recalled that insurgents had attacked Garkida town in Gombi local government area of Adamawa state on Christmas eve, killing at least six people and burning down houses.
Garkida has common border with Hawul local government area of Borno state.
