Gunmen suspected to be Boko Haram terrorists have invaded Magumeri town, the headquarters of Magumeri Local Government Area, about 51kms from Maiduguri, Borno State capital.
The attackers set some places, including the only functioning telecom base station in the town ablaze.
The suspected insurgents also burnt down a fully equipped general hospital, which was recently equipped by the Borno State government and carted away a tractor which was provided by the government to the local government council, to reduce the farmers’ hardship during the farming season.
Security sources confirmed to ait.live that the insurgents invaded Magumeri at about 4 pm on Monday, and started shooting sporadically for almost two hours.
Reports also said there were attempts by the military to dislodge them, but the insurgents infiltrated the Local Government Council Headquarters, where they destroyed some property.
