There is unsettled dust in the Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria, TRCN, following allegations of fund diversion in 2020 during the conduct of professional Qualification examination for teachers.
In a statement signed by TRCN Registrar, Professor Josiah Ajiboye, the council does not collect cash in all its operations and all payments are done through the government-approved REMITA platform.
While the TRCN statement signed by Head of Media, Oduh Anthony, dismisses reports by Jazeera News that it diverted funds, the Universal Basic Education Commission, UBEC on its part is boasting that it committed N10 billion to teacher’s development in 2020, which is 10 per cent of the entire amount received from Consolidated Revenue Fund.
UBEC Executive Secretary, Hamid Bobboyi, in a statement signed by Head of Media, David Apeh, said even though the year 2020 was very challenging as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic that led to the lockdown of the country and closure of schools, the Commission worked hard to build the capacity of teachers.
