Troops of Operation Sahel Sanity, meant to rout out all forms of crime and criminality, especially banditry, in the Northwest zone of the country, have so far neutralized 100 bandits, foiled 74 and 54 bandits and kidnapping attacks respectively.
This is coming two months into the commencement of Operation.
The Acting Director Media Operations, Brigadier General Bernard Onyeuko, who stated this while giving the scorecard for the period under review at the Special Army Super Camp 4 at Faskari, Katsina State, also said, the troops have continued to dominate all volatile areas with confidence building patrols.
Brigadier General Onyeuko stressed that, the successes were recorded due to the determination, professionalism and gallantry efforts of the troops.
He said, the crippled agricultural and socioeconomic lives of the people of the northwest zone by the bandits’ activities, have been restored to normalcy.
He added that, within the period under review, both farm and highway patrols were carried out within Sokoto, Katsina, Kaduna, Kebbi and Zamfara States, thereby boosting the confidence of the people, in carrying out their daily activities.

According to him, 100 bandits were neutralized, 5,614 rustled animals were recovered, 148 suspected bandits and 315 illegal armed miners were arrested.
Onyeuko further added that, 43 AK 47 rifles, 1 GPMG and 100 Dane guns, as well as 3,261 rounds of special 7.62 millimeter and 151 live cartridges of ammunition were all recovered.
He also added that the troops rescued 107 kidnapped victims, 20 bandits informants and collaborators, as well as destroyed 81 bandits’ camps, including the notorious Dangote Triangle and their logistics bases, while 32 bandits logistics suppliers, including international collaborators were also arrested.
Onyeuko therefore urged the troops to continue with the aggressive onslaught, until total peace and security returns to the area.
He encouraged the people of the zone to continue to avail the troops with actionable information that will bring about total success in the operation.
