The United States has condemned the coup in Myanmar, asking the military to restore civilian rule.
The U.S Secretary of State, Antony Blinken called for the release of all detained government officials, including Ann San Sukyi, the leader of the main party in parliament.

The Myanmar military on Monday morning announced on its TV network that it had taken over the country, and will run affairs for one year, and with its most senior officer, General Min Aung Haing as junta leader.
