The United Nations says Bayelsa State in South-South Nigeria needs urgent support from both the Federal Government and the international community, describing recent flood disaster as a crisis of major proportion that deserves attention.
UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres who spoke through the Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator for Nigeria, Mathias Schmale during a courtesy visit to Governor Douye Diri in Government House, Yenagoa on Saturday says the flood dilemma in Bayelsa State can best be likened to that of the recent Pakistan flood.

Governor Diri said the UN envoy’s visit has brought hope to the state. He noted that the government was already planning post-flood management.
Schmale and his team had the previous day joined Governor Diri on a visit to some communities in Southern Ijaw LGA that were greatly impacted by the flood.
