The new Vice Chancellor of the University of Ilorin, Professor Wahab Egbewole (SAN) has formally assumed office as the eleventh Vice Chancellor of the federal institution with assurance to address challenges confronting the university.
Egbewole said this during his formal assumption of office at the University of Ilorin main campus where he maintained that he’s fully aware of the challenges facing the institution noting that his ‘Smart Agenda’ would be made to address these challenges.

In his inaugural speech which coincides with the suspension of the eight month strike by members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Professor Wahab Egbewole who is also a Senior Advocate of Nigeria in his Smart Agenda Vision for the university, noted that he had taken his time to study the strength, weakness, opportunities and threats (SWOT) that confront the university and he is prepared to address them for institutional excellence and collective interest.
Egbewole also said he will address the environmental policy of the institution regarding clean and conducive environment
In his keynote address titled “Challenges facing appointment of Vice-Chancellors in Contemporary Nigerian University Setting”, Professor Musbau Akanji stated that Xenophobia is one of the serious threats facing higher education in some African countries, saying no university in the world can become a global center of academic and research excellence through local thinking in its academic appointment policies
The University of Ilorin is one of the most sought-after institution in the country for its stable academic calendar before being interrupted by the ASUU strike.
