A number of University of Port Harcourt athletes who usually are teammates will become foes when the Edo 2020 National Sports Festival eventually gets underway next year.
The university undergraduates who are making use of the high-performance centre at Uniport to prepare for the Edo games are also aiming to meet Tokyo Olympics qualification benchmark in their various events.
At the festival, friendship would be set aside for self pride and honour.
They see participation at the 20th National Sports Festival as a glorious opportunity to make history.
Some of them have been champions at various international meets including the West African University Games and National Junior and Senior Championships.

Their aim at the sports festival is not only to write their names in the history book of Nigeria’s own version of the Olympic games but also to meet the required standards for the Olympics.
The 20th National Sports Festival, after suffering two postponements due to the Covid 19 pandemic, is scheduled for next January.
