Bayelsa State Governor Douye Diri has said that the autonomy of universities in Nigeria, will ensure favourable competition with other tertiary institutions across the globe.
He was speaking during a facility tour of the Bayelsa State Owned-medical University in Yenagoa, Where he also pledged to construct the senate building of the University.
Established in October, 2018, the Bayelsa Medical University, is located at the Bayelsa 500 bed hospital.
The medical Institution which commenced activities with seven facilities was yet to receive the required accreditation of the National Universities Commission, NUC.
Governor Douye Diri’s visit to the campus was to get first hand information on how to sustain the institution.
The meeting with the Governing body was also geared toward unifying preparations for accreditation of the institution.

Established by the immediate past administration of Seriake Dickson, the medical University was designed to produce experts in the medical field thereby making Bayelsa a medical hub.
