The United States Government has congratulated the government and the people of Nigeria on the 60th anniversary of Nigeria’s independence.
In a statement released by the U.S. Secretary of State, Michael Pompeo, the United States stressed the importance of the democratic values both countries share and their similar entrepreneurial spirit.
The statement congratulated the Nigerian people for their commitment to tackling corruption, strengthening democratic institutions, and leveraging Nigerian entrepreneurship to promote economic recovery.
It hinted that even now, the people-to-people partnership between both nations are helping Nigeria combat the threat posed by COVID-19.
The United States also promised to continue to support the Nigerian people as the country seeks to collaborate with her neighbours on the content to expand regional peace and security and counter violent extremists.
The U.S. said it looks forward to continuing to work with a peaceful and prosperous Nigeria and to making progress in support of the countries’ shared values in the coming year.

In a similar vein, the United Kingdom Prime Minister, Boris Johnson, congratulated President Muhammadu Buhari and the people of Nigeria on the 60th anniversary of Nigeria’s independence.
This was disclosed in a statement on the verified Twitter handle of the Embassy of the United Kingdom in Nigeria.

Johnson said the UK and Nigeria have enjoyed a long-standing relationship and are both members of the Commonwealth.
The UK Prime Minister urged Nigerians to use the opportunity presented by this anniversary to celebrate the extraordinary spirit of the Nigerian people which he said he enjoyed during his visit to Nigeria in 2017 which he also saw on display in the UK.
Johnson added that Nigerians are making enormous contributions across the United Kingdom and he looks forward to many more years of friendship between the UK and Nigeria.
